Forest geomatics is the discipline of gathering, storing, processing, and delivering geographic information, or spatially referenced forest information.
Most of forest geomatics applications are related to the use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing tecnologies.
Forest geomatics are based on the integration of traditional forest sciences such as forest ecology and management, silviculture or forest inventory with advanced geospatial tools.
The laboratories members of the forestlab.net network are involved in a number of research projects dealing with forest geomatics.
forestlab.net boost the integrated use of specific resources available in the four Universities and is structured to communicate results and research progress to the scientific community. The four Laboratories members of the Consortium share resources, axperiences, methods and data in a common geospatial infrastructure.
forestlab.net frequently operativelly support the research activities of the Italian Academy of Forest Science (AISF) located in Florence.
