A short history
The first node of the network, the geoLAB, born in 1999 at the University of Florence on the basis of the initiative of P. Corona. Two PhD students (G. Chirici and A. Barbati) and one graduating student (D. Travaglini) activelly worked and promoted the activities of geoLAB.
Since the very beginning the geoLAB, and later on, the forestlab.net supported the Italian Academy of Forest Sciences in all the projects related to the application of forest geomatics.
In 2001 P. Corona moved to University of Tuscia creating the sisFOR.
In 2005 M. Marchetti created the ECOGEOFOR at the University of Molise.
In 2005 the consortium forestlab.net was formally established.
In 2005 G. Chirici moved to the University of Molise joining the ECOGEOFOR.
In 2005 greenlab from the University of Bari under the initiative of G. Sanesi and R. Lafortezza joined the network.
Our mission
A laboratory of geomatics is able to carry out relevant research activities only when it is able to reach a "critical mass" in terms of human and technological resources.
The mission of forestlab.net is to mantain the close cooperation between its members creating one unique virtual large laboratory. Bypassing the physical separation of the single nodes of the network.
Trought forestlab.net graduating and PhD students and young researchers are free to accumulate experiences moving along the nodes of the network.
Methods, procedures, applications and software developed in one of the nodes are immediatelly transferred and shared within the network.
Raw and manipulated geographical dataset are stored in geodatabases shared within the consortium.
